SHROVE TUESDAY, ASH WEDNESDAY & LENTEN RICE DAY
Setting out to reach our monetary target for Project Compassion began in earnest on Shrove Tuesday yesterday, with students from MacKillop 3 PC Group, assisted by Ms Ord, cooking and selling pancakes.
Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Shrove Tuesday was the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast and pancakes are the perfect way of using up these ingredients.
Today, Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter –traditionally a time of fasting and abstinence in the Christian tradition.
Chanel College began the day with House Liturgies including the distribution of ashes and continued into Lenten Rice Day where students and staff were encouraged to “walk in the shoes” of those who hunger for food, by consuming only rice and water that was cooked and served by students from Marcellin 3 and Futuna 5.
Many thanks to Ms Going who organised and supervised the students on the day.
Both these events were very well supported and we thank parents for encouraging their children to be active in these activities as we try to raise awareness of those who do not have the same comforts and services that we all enjoy and often take for granted.
