This innovative concept came about several years ago as a response to the increasing cost of camps and retreats. A group of dedicated mums agreed that if they all ‘pitched in’, they could cater for these events, thereby reducing the expense for all families. They arranged for parents to bring a plate to share for morning and afternoon teas, help cook and serve the meals and suppers on these occasions. This great concept not only saved families added expense but it served to foster the development of a ‘College Community’ with many of the families forming close friendships with other parents, teachers and students. As their numbers increased, they were able to have a representative mother for each House and the ‘Homeroom Mothers’ became the College’s ‘Kitchen Angels’ for every function.
Times have changed, and we now have both mums and dads working for this group, which means that we now have ‘Homeroom Parents’.
Since the introduction of a vertical Homeroom structure in 2007, we have endeavoured to have a Homeroom Parent for each Pastoral Care Group. This provides the opportunity to get to know each of the students in this Pastoral Care Group.
We appreciate that it is often difficult for families to take time off from work to assist at retreats. Consequently, while venue catering provides main meals at Retreats, we still need plates of goodies from home to cater for morning and afternoon teas and suppers.
The Opening and Closing Masses, Star of the Sea/Chanel Masses also require food from home as well as assistance with the preparation and serving. These are organised on a roster basis and your Pastoral Leader will inform you as to when a plate of goodies from home will be needed.
