Inspired by our motto, To Live Justly, and our core values of Justice, Respect, Compassion, students at Chanel College, are encouraged to take part in service opportunities and to extend their circle of friends by joining one of our Clubs.
Interact
Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people in secondary school. The Chanel College Interact Club is sponsored by Gladstone’s Rotary Club, and each year, students complete service projects, one of which is designed for further international understanding and goodwill.
Eco-Warriors
Eco-Warriors is part of the sustainable schools’ program. It creates environmental awareness and allows students to become involved in hands-on projects to protect our environment and to reduce our carbon footprint.
Chess
Each year, students compete in three inter-school tournaments which are conducted by Gardiner Chess.
Players play in every round of the tournament – win, lose or draw.
All results from inter-school competitions are sent to the Queensland Junior Ratings Officer for rating.
The winning team of the Term 3 tournament is invited to play in the State Championships which are held in Brisbane during Term 4. Students must have played in the Term 1 and/or Term 2 tournaments to be eligible to compete in the State Championships.
Readers Cup
Organised by the Queensland Branch of the Children’s Book Council of Australia, Readers Cup is a state-wide competition for young readers.
Participation in Readers Cup challenges students to read widely and to develop a love of reading while working collaboratively in teams.
Teams of four students read a set of book and then compete against teams from other schools to answer questions from the books.
