At Chanel College, we believe that participation is the key that opens the door to an amazing world of possibilities.
Students have the opportunity to pursue excellence outside of the classroom through participation in a wide variety of cultural pursuits.
Music
Chanel College offers the opportunity for students to participate in a range of music ensembles and groups. These include:
- Choir
- Chanelabocce
- Concert Band
- Drum Line
- Rock Band
Participation in these ensembles and groups offers students a wonderful opportunity to rehearse and perform with other students while also having fun and honing their performance skills.
Each year our Choir and ensembles travel to Brisbane to perform at the Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival.
Drama
Drama is a vibrant component of life at Chanel College.
Students experience a learning environment that promotes imagination, critical thinking, cultural engagement, communication, creativity and problem-solving.
Participation in Drama helps students develop their skills in communication, self-expression and teamwork.
Students may pursue the interest in the Performing Arts through participation in a variety of activities including the:
- College Play
- College Musical
- Combined Schools Musical (every two years)
- Drama Club
- Theatresports
Public Speaking
Public speaking provides students with an excellent opportunity to increase their general knowledge, create arguments, improve their research skills and improve their ability to write essays. All of these are necessary skills for success in their school years and beyond.
Chanel College offers students these opportunities to participate in public speaking competitions:
- Junior Public Speaking
- Senior Public Speaking
- Lions Youth of the Year
- Rostrum Voice of Youth
These contests involve prepared speeches, impromptu speaking and interviews on current affairs and general knowledge.
Visual Art
Involvement in Visual Art is known to relieve stress, encourage creative thinking and increase brain plasticity.
Students in Years 10 – 12 who study Visual Art have the opportunity to compete in the:
- Golding Showcase, an annual display arranged by the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum in conjunction with local secondary schools
- Creative Generations Exhibition, an annual event at the Rockhampton City Art Gallery
