Update on Coronavirus (COVID-19) from Chanel College – 17 March 2020 –
Dear Parents and Carers,
At Chanel College, the health and wellbeing of your children, and our staff, remains our number one priority.
As you know, COVID-19 conditions and government advice determining action schools are required to take are continually changing and will most likely continue to do so in the immediate future.
In light of this, I write to up-date you on our responses to the most recent advice from Queensland Health and Catholic Education – Diocese of Rockhampton (CEDR). The latest information is available at novel coronavirus on the Queensland Health website.
As of today:
- the nationwide ban on mass gatherings will apply to all College assemblies, liturgies, whole College events and sports events.
- all overnight trips/excursions are being reassessed on the basis of current advice.
- the Fraser Coast Netball and Rugby Union Carnivals scheduled for this weekend have been cancelled.
- before school Gym sessions have been cancelled until further notice.
- arrangements for students before school and during lunch breaks will change as of today. Before school, students are asked to assemble in their House areas. During the day, all students will no longer gather for lunch in Lavalla Court. Instead, students have been allocated areas across the College. This allocation is based on year levels.
- the Queensland Museum Network has advised us that the World Science Festival event scheduled for Gladstone has been cancelled.
- we are looking at alternative formats for the College Cross-Country which is scheduled for the last week of this term. Should there be no viable options, the carnival will be cancelled.
- teachers are ensuring that all work is on their Google classrooms in the event that students are unable to attend school.
Please note that the P & F meeting scheduled for this evening has also been cancelled.
The Leadership Team will consider the broader impacts of current (and potential future) restrictions on school activities as part of our contingency planning for the remainder of this term and Term 2.
Again, thank you for your understanding and attention to this important matter. Let us continue to hold all impacted by COVID-19 in our prayers especially our health care professionals at this challenging time.
Kind regards
Susan Bunkum
