Behaviour/classroom management at Chanel College is underpinned by the philosophy of Restorative Practices.
Central to this is the intention that we provide students with the opportunity to develop self-discipline and positive behaviours in a safe and supportive environment.
Chanel College has high expectations of all members of its community. Students are expected to exhibit high standards of personal behaviour and are challenged when these expectations are not met. They are challenged in a way that respects them as individuals who have the capacity to correct their behaviour and make amends to those affected.
In using Restorative Practices, Chanel College aims to:
- educate students towards self-directed, positive behaviour
- promote, nurture and protect healthy, respectful and positive relationships between members of the College community
- enable students to be accountable for the consequences of any inappropriate behaviour/action.
At Chanel College, the Restorative Practice process:
- reflects the College’s values of Justice, Respect, Compassion
- is underpinned by the vision of students as Respectful, Responsible, Resilient Learners
- is based on the belief that our College must be a safe, caring and orderly learning environment in which the rights of all students to learn and all teachers to teach must be supported
- is based on our belief that the approach to managing inappropriate student behaviour should primarily be an educative one – encouraging students to learn to be responsible for themselves and their actions and to make genuine, positive contributions to their community
- reflects our understanding that inappropriate behaviour requires a response which protects the rights of students who want to learn, supports the rights of teachers to teach, and offers the students involved, a chance to learn how to make more appropriate choices in the future.
